Conditions for the Use of Balboa Paddle Club Cayucos
- Goal. The Balboa Paddle Club (CREBA), with the objective to provide as many cayucos as possible for the participants in the Panama Canal Ocean Cayuco Race, has set forth these rules and conditions regarding the use of the Club cayucos.
- Rule Compliance. The use of the
CREBA cayucos is a privilege, and should be treated as such. The CREBA reserves the
right to deny the use of its cayucos if it determines by majority vote of the Board of Directors that those to whom the cayuco has been assigned to do not comply with these rules.
- Fees. The membership, the cayuco
usage deposit and the Ocean to Ocean Race registration fee must be paid in full
to receive the cayuco. You may see all the CREBA fees including membership and
events registration here [+].
- Deposit. Adittionally to the above fees, a deposit per cayuco will be required [+]. This deposit will be returned when the cayuco and trailer are returned, in good condition, after the race season.
- To Receive a Cayuco. Once a crew wins a cayuco in the raffle, they must: attend the clinic andpass the swamp test; have paid the membership fee, the cayuco usage deposit and the Ocean to Ocean Cayuco Race registration fees.
- Responsibilities. Those receiving cayucos will be required to maintain, repair and prepare it for the race, as well as the trailer on witch it is transported. The cayuco may not be mistreated, dropped, or moved without securing it properly to the trailer. It is urged that both the cayuco and trailer are returned at the end of the cayuco season in better condition than when it was received.
- Availability. Cayucos obtained in the raffle cannot be lent, transferred or rented in any way. Furthermore, owners of private Cayucos cannot participate in the raffle unless they provide their own Cayucos to be included in the CREBA raffle And the crew obtaining one of these privately owned cayucos will be strictly subjected to rule 5 above,Responsabilities, and the privately-owned cayuco will be returned to the rightful owner as soon as possible after the race. If it becomes apparent to the CREBA that a raffle cayuco is being used solely for practice purpose and is not intended for the race, CREBA reserves the right to repossess the cayuco and give it to the next crew to which it was assigned in the raffle.
- Safety. All safety rules that appear in the
Cayuco Race Rules will be complied with. These include, but are not limited to:
- There will always be a life jacket for each paddler in the cayuco.
- A safety whistle is required to be on board.
- Each paddler will wear foot protection (shoes) when getting in and out of the cayuco while on the ramp.
- Each cayuco will have at least one bailer secured to it.
- There must be a white flag on board to use as signal in case of emergency. A white T-shirt can serve this purpose.
- Swamping of other Cayucos is strictly prohibited.
There will be club officials at the practice ramp
to ensure that these rules are complied with. The cayuco is prohibited from
practicing until the safety rules are complied with. If a cayuco crew disregards
the safety rules and the decision of the Club official as to whether they can practice
that day, they will be reported to the Board of Directors, which by majority vote will
disqualify that crew from the race, repossess and reassign the cayuco, if it is a
Club cayuco. If the cayuco is privately owned, it will not be allowed to compete
with that crew, nor will that crew be allowed to compete in any other cayuco.
